Abstract.

The article, based on the author’s methodological developments on the cultural inheritance and the analysis of environmental imagery through the study and/or interpretation of selected masterpieces using the author’s method of holistic beauty and the method of pictorial composition with a linear ruler, interdisciplinary synthesis of knowledge based on dialectics (G. Hegel) and the general theory of systems (L. von Bertalanfy), for the first time in Ukrainian terminology on the creation of a holistic hierarchical environment, for the expression of original meanings according to the domestic humanistic tradition, identifies the main directions of environmental imagery and the corresponding substantive orientation of the methods and techniques of design composition, which has fundamental methodological significance for the author’s design of an original space. Regardless of the professional orientation of the tasks and specializations of the authors involved, for the holistic beauty of spatial forms of the corresponding purpose, which is proposed to be called the master creator’s architectonic design of the subject-spatial environment, environmental imagery represents four methodological directions of compositional developments according to the predominant primary sources of imagery: functional imagery, or imagery of purposes; symbolic imagery, or imagery of vocations; synthetic symbolic-functional imagery; synthetic conceptual functional-symbolic imagery. According to the above directions of imagery and according to the original spiritual content, it is advisable to choose priority design principles and develop appropriate author’s applied methods of composition.
