Abstract. The article deals with the Ukrainian-Slovak relations through the prism of political, economic, and humanitarian support of the neighboring Slovakia of our country today. It covers relations of the Consulate General of Ukraine in Prešov with ordinary Ukrainians abroad, various public organizations in Slovakia, Ukrainian cultural and educational associations, as well as representatives of the authorities of the two countries – Ukraine and Slovakia – based on the materials of archives, literature, and press. The article outlines the factors and circumstances that influenced the opinions, moods of the Ukrainian state leaders regarding the possibility of continuing the Ukrainian diplomatic representation in Prešov to function. The main attention is paid to the evolution of relations between the Ukrainian and Slovak authorities, since the very understanding between the higher authorities of the states could ultimately solve an important issue for ordinary Ukrainians being in the territory of Slovakia – the ability to resolve issues in the territory of another state without moral and physical inconvenience.
The role of the Consulate General of Ukraine in Prešov is highlighted, as well as the problems that have arisen in the lives of the Ukrainians in Slovak Republic due to the liquidation of the Consulate General of Ukraine in Prešov in November 2014.
