Abstract.
The article defines the essence and content of the concept of “restoration of monuments of cultural heritage” through the general notion of “restoration,” in particular as a philosophical category. In this context, it emphasizes the existing challenges and issues that, within the framework of Ukraine’s post-war recovery, will influence the restoration of monuments damaged or destroyed as a result of military aggression.
It is emphasized that restoration, as one of the methods of renovating damaged monuments, possesses certain specific characteristics. Among the related challenges are the shortage of appropriately specialized professionals, the uncertainty surrounding the procedures for licensing and certification of restoration specialists, as well as the lack of a comprehensive approach at the level of authorized governmental institutions.
It has been determined that the problem of the adaptive use of digital copies as situational substitutes for immovable monuments that have suffered critical destruction remains insufficiently researched at this stage. This requires not only the definitive end of the war, but also consideration of ethical and moral aspects in order to comprehend and adopt, at both the state level and within specific communities, complex decisions regarding the future “fate” of each monument.
In view of the challenges associated with actual and potential losses among immovable objects of cultural heritage, proposals have been formulated to introduce an electronic register for recording monuments that have been destroyed or damaged during the period of the full-scale invasion.
