Abstract.
This review seeks to contribute to the scholarly discussion prompted by the publication of the monograph “The Moon Goddess in the ornaments of Cucuteni–Trypillia pottery: An introduction to the semantics of Trypillian Ornaments“, the result of Y. M. Prychepii’s research focused on substantiating his original hypothesis concerning eight deities embodying the phases of the Moon and demonstrating the correspondence between eight- and seven-member structures. Thus the author proposes the concept of pantheons comprising 8 and 32 deities and puts forward a hypothesis concerning sacred sets. In reviewing this monograph, we focus on the substance of the argumentation underlying the proposed concept, analyze the methods used by the author, and consider possibilities for further developing of the hypothesis.
