Анотація.
Автор оглядає літературу з різноманітних галузей археології, історії і лінгвістики, намагаючись зібрати докупи розпорошені відомості про контакти між постримською Британією і пізньоримською Сирією (V–VII ст.). Археологія демонструє, що значна частина усього імпорту до Британії в V–VII ст. походила з Візантії і потрапляла на Острів у сирійських/ кілікійських амфорах. Історики на основі цих знахідок і багаточисельних писемних джерел висновують, що в торгівлі між Візантією і Британією провідну роль відігравали сирійські купці. Ізотопні дослідження постримських поховань Уельсу підтверджують присутність на Острові мігрантів зі Східного Середземномор’я. Про живі контакти з візантійцями — і конкретно сирійцями — свідчать і лінгвістичні дослідження британських рукописів. Ці узгоджені свідчення про тривалу присутність сирійців у постримській Британії дають змогу впевнено казати про культурні контакти між християнами Британії і Антіохійського осередку.
